Pamela Preston co-founded Breakaway Communications
with business partner Kelly Fitzgerald after a 13-year career
managing TSI Communications, a mid-sized public relations
and marketing firm with a staff of 160+ and offices
in New York, San Francisco, and London.
While at TSI, she was responsible for client service
across the broad range of the firm's clients. With
TSI President Kelly Fitzgerald, Pam also had primary
responsibility for TSI's IBM account group which grew
to a $10 million business. Additionally, she was responsible
for the management of TSI's London office where she
worked to build the staff and account base.
As the IBM team leader, she directed major campaigns
and announcements, including:
IBM and Dell $16 billion
OEM Agreement
Network Appliance Industry Launch (IBM, Oracle,
Netscape)
IBM's First Internet Commerce Launch: CommercePoint
IBM's eServer European Launch
Deep Blue, the world famous chess match between
IBM's
supercomputer and
Chessmaster, Gary Kasparov
Pamela's professional experience also includes developing
and implementing communications programs for small
to medium-sized companies such as Adaptec, MessageLabs,
Internet Appliance Networks (IAN), Lazy Software,
MaXXan, NDS Group PLC and Systems Union.
Her professional experience also includes four years
as a software trainer and support representative at
Creative Socio-Medics, a healthcare information systems
developer in New York. She was responsible for maintaining
a high level of customer service for the CSM client
base, training them on the use of new software and
managing their requests for software upgrades and
enhancements.
She holds a B.A. in English from the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst.
Kelly Fitzgerald

Kelly Fitzgerald co-founded Breakaway Communications
with business partner Pam Preston after spending 12
years at TSI Communications, a mid-sized public relations
and marketing firm with a staff of 160+ and offices in
New York, San Francisco, and London.
As President of TSI Communications, Kelly was responsible
for the overall direction, philosophy and management
of the agency. Her one overriding objective was to
ensure that TSI provided superior client service.
She directly provided strategic and tactical counsel
to accounts across the agency.
After joining TSI in 1992, Kelly became primarily
involved in building the IBM team. Along with Pam
Preston, they grew the account to a $10 million business.
Highlights of her IBM work included launching the
IBM internet Division and leading the communications
effort promoting IBM's world-renowned Deep Blue supercomputer.
This campaign earned TSI the Gold CIPRA award in 1998.
Prior to joining TSI Kelly worked in a marketing position
at IBM while working on her graduate degree in business.
As leader of the Application Solutions Marketing program,
she developed sales leads for new business through
on-site educational and marketing seminars, collateral
development and direct mail campaigns.
Before pursuing her graduate degree, Kelly worked
on Capitol Hill, managing legislative and press issues
for a Member of Congress from Florida, working with
constituents, legislative committees, and lobbying
groups. Her areas of expertise included Interior &
Insular Affairs, Energy & Commerce, the Judiciary
and Education.
Kelly received a B.A. in government and economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1985, and a Master of Business Administration from Rollins College in 1990.
Barbara Hagin
Managing Partner
Breakaway Communications, LLC
Barbara is an 19-year veteran of public relations, marketing and
journalism, providing strategic counsel and hands-on PR support to
technology companies. Barbara has developed and managed the
implementation of PR programs and campaigns for companies ranging from:
IBM (servers, software, storage and research)
Sony (computer products)
Informatica (enterprise analytics software)
Intel (branding initiative)
to startups such as:
Acero (Bio-IT software)
Verano (secure process control systems software)
Genesys Telecommunications Labs (IPO)
Frontier/GlobalCenter (repositioning)
Healtheon (initial launch)
WhoWhere (acquired by Lycos), among others.
Barbara led the team that repositioned Borland (to the industry and Wall Street)
from a passé development tools company into a re-invigorated and
successful enterprise software solutions provider. Most recently Barbara
developed the strategy for the PR launch of Vivato, the pioneer in Wi-Fi
switching. The Vivato launch resulted in high-visibility coverage in
more than 50 major media outlets.
Barbara's experience also includes managing technical marketing programs
and U.S. staff for Ricoh Corporation, supporting retail sales of
consumer electronics and multi-function office products.
Early in her career, Barbara held editorial positions at consumer and
trade publications focusing on imaging technologies, including Popular
Photography and Industrial Photography magazines. She founded Advanced
Imaging magazine in 1986.
Barbara holds a B.A. in journalism/political science from Rutgers University, with graduate studies at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. She is a frequent guest lecturer at Santa Clara University.
