Often, as I’m trying to figure out the best angle for a story or the best way to pitch a writer, I think “it would be great if I could just pick that editor’s brain for a few minutes.”
I’m sure every PR professional knows that feeling. Last Friday, Breakaway had a special guest stop by our office to give us exactly the insight I craved. Dylan Tweney from Wired took the time to meet the Breakaway team last week, answered a barrage of questions and gave us the low down on what the super-smart, gadget-loving folks at Wired really want to know about.
We talked about everything from broken embargoes to his personal favorite gadgets (some of us are now coveting that camera along with you Dylan). I wholeheartedly agreed with his assessment that the iPhone was the most groundbreaking gadget of the last couple of years, and appreciated his insight into the state of journalism and the publishing industry, as well as his thoughts on Twitter. This meeting was great in that it allowed me to directly connect with Dylan and really understand how he personally wants to work with PR people.
As senior editor for Wired.com, I know that Dylan is extremely busy drafting articles, meeting with vendors and planning his next piece, so my hat goes off to him taking the time to meet with us. Whether it’s an in-person meeting or simply a phone conversation we would love to connect with additional journalists to hear their PR likes and dislikes in hopes to better understand how to most effectively work with them. Any takers…?
