CES: The Times Square of the West

Walking through the South Hall at CES and watching as people walked dumbfounded down the aisles staring at all the exhibits, I thought to myself, “I’ve seen this before.”  This look of amazement, the slow shuffle of their feet, bumping into the people in front of them, is something I witness every time I walk through Times Square.

The first time you make your way through Times Square, it’s simply amazing - the dazzling lights, the captivating ads and street performers who litter the sidewalks - all add to the overall experience that is Times Square.  Your first visit is simply astounding but after a while it has a completely different “get-out-of-my way!” feeling.

This was my first CES, and at first I was awestruck though it didn’t take long for me to go back into my New York mentality of just trying to get from point A to point B.

But I have to say, even as I was trying to push through the crowds, I left Vegas quite impressed with the show.  Most of the booths I visited were engaging and everyone seemed energized with what the new decade might have in store for technology.  The buzz from the show seemed to be on 3D TVs and tablets, although the Google Nexus One launch still had folks talking.  I was lucky enough to see the phone up close and personal while playing Texas Hold ‘Em in the MGM Grand.

While there with the ng Connect Program demonstrating nine different solution concepts, it seemed everyone who walked into our booth was blown away by the LTE Connected Car.  It was a great opportunity to allow reporters who covered the car during the launch in November to see it in person, as well as introduce the car to new reporters to demonstrate all the possibilities LTE enables.

Everyone has to go home sometime and after a long flight back to New York, I’m already thinking about what the next CES will hold!
